If everyone ends up frozen, the game is over and the person who is “it” wins. Players who haven’t been frozen can touch and unfreeze the tagged players. If you want to make the game more interesting, try variants like freeze tag, where anyone who gets tagged has to freeze. As soon as somebody gets tagged, they become the new “it” person. The original Wall Street Journal article stated that one player broke. The person that's “It” must then chase the other players and try to tag them before they can reach the safe zone. Many of the film’s scenes happened for real though and there was no end to the lengths players would go to honour the game. When you’re ready to start, have the person that's “it” count to 10 so everyone else can get a head start running away. To keep everyone from just camping out in the safe zone, set a time limit so they can only be there for a short amount of time-say, 30 seconds. For instance, you might say that nobody can get tagged if they have their hand on the slide. There’s also usually a safe zone where whoever is “it” can’t tag anyone. For example, if you’re on the playground, you might stick to just the gravel or blacktop, and make the grass off-limits. Decide with the other players where the edges of your playing area should be. Tag works best outdoors in a big, open area where it’s easy to run around without tripping over anything or hurting yourself. GUAC-TRACK - A route first used by Xavia Rodriguez Alvarez where the Evader goes from the Sisters, to the Mountain, to the Loading Bay without touching the ground.ĮVASION RATIO - The percentage of Chases that end in an Evasion.ĬHASE TAG® - The one-on-one format of competitive tag with 20 second Chases involving one Chaser and one Evader. To play a game of tag, get together with a few friends and decide who’s going to be “it.” There are a few ways to do this, but one classic method is to say “Who’s it?” The last person to yell out “Not it!” has to be “it.” Next, choose a good playing area. QUAD - The playing area (in the UK, the old-school name for a playground is a quad). More experienced athletes will look to FLUSH the Chaser out of high EQ areas quickly and efficiently. TAILING - A technique used by the Chaser where they follow the same path as the Evader (generally considered an inferior strategy).īENNY HILL - When the Chaser runs round and round the same (usually high EQ) obstacle to try to catch the Evader (generally done by inexperienced athletes). THREADING - Diving or sliding though a tight space on the Quad, like through the Ridge or Loading Bay SPIKE - A Chase that lasts less than 5 seconds (Jason Matten).ĬENTRE CONTROL - A technique used by the Chaser to regain control of centre of the Quad after an attempted Tag (Marrero Gang). IDLING - A technique used by the Evader to hide behind a high EQ obstacle and waste the Chasers time / run down the clock while expending the least amount of energy (Marrero Gang). PINCH POINT - Areas on the Quad where the Evader has limited options to escape (Marrero Gang). REVERSE HERDING - A technique used by the Evader to draw the Chaser into areas on the Quad that are harder to make a Tag (Marrero Gang). HERDING - A technique used by the Chaser to corral the Evader into areas of the Quad that will make it easier to make a Tag (Marrero Gang). The higher the EQ, the more the protection (Jason Matten). If a winner is not decided after one round of Sudden Death (for example, if both Chases end in an Evasion), the process is repeated.ĮQ (EVASION QUALITY) - A hypothetical value representing how much protection an obstacle (or area on the Quad) provides for the Evader. The Evading team must send out their athlete first. The 25 second rest period between Chases does not apply during Sudden Death and teams have up to 3 minutes to decide which athlete to send out.The team that gets the longest Evasion Time wins.To be unfrozen, someone must touch them and must yell out the name of. A Sudden Death Chase-Off consists of two 20 second Chases where each team gets to Evade. In this variation, when the person who is it tags someone, they are frozen in place. If a match ends in a draw, it goes to a Sudden Death Chase-Off.If an athlete steps out of bounds, they lose that Chase.when the Evader lasts 20 seconds without getting caught). A team is awarded one point for each Evasion they make (I.e.The winning athlete in each Chase stays on as the Evader for the next Chase. There is a 25 second Rest Period between Chases. Each Chase is 20 seconds long with one Chaser and one Evader. It is a team format that is played by two teams of up to 6 athletes.WCT national Championships, WCT4, WCT5 etc.). This is our most popular format and is used at our main events (eg.
